St. Nick’s Kids Get Fired Up!

This past Sunday, the children of St. Nicholas were treated with a great surprise! As we sang the final hymn, we heard the “WHOOP-WHOOP” of a fire truck from the volunteer fire department in Hamilton. The kids were able to hop in, run the lights, test the siren, and talk to a local firefighter. 2-year-old Will Bailey was ecstatic to see the truck and cried his eyes out when it left. This was all to signify that St. Nicholas’ Sunday School program for the year is “fired up” about Jesus and a new year of learning, fun, and fellowship. Parents and children also enjoyed some wonderful refreshments as they looked over the truck. Many thanks go to Peggy Martin and her battalion of fantastic Sunday School teachers!

Gardens Overlook parking area to Mountain Creek Loop and back

img_0399.jpgBoy, I sure didn’t want to hike this morning. My 6 month old son has a virus, so he was up and unconsolable many times last night. My turn to get him to sleep came about 5:00 a.m. and it took about an hour to get him back to sleep. So, needless to say, I was not looking forward to hiking over 4 miles this morning. Read more

Snoots Wedding

On August 8, Barry Snoots and Nancy Johannaber entered into the covenant of marriage at St. Nicholas. This was a wonderful wedding, and a whole church effort. Barry and Nancy are relatively new to the area and St. Nicholas. Luckily, they became regular attendees, and asked to be married at St. Nicholas. By the time the marriage rolled around, the photography was handled by Lynn Hall, the flowers by Barbara Bradley, the readings by Michelle Moody and Sue Halmrast, the acolyte duties by Sean Moody, and the music by our consultant Trey Clegg! It was a truly an example of how St. Nicholas pulls together to help one another! Kudos to everyone!

Below are a few of the pictures that Lynn took and here is a link to her friend John’s site, who also took pictures.

The Hiking Preacher Part 1

This is the first in a series of posts about my adventures on the Pine Mountain Trail. As I’ve posted before, I have been blocking off time each Monday morning to hike a bit of the PMT. This is a way for me to have some peaceful, reflective time of my own away from church and family life, to re-center myself for the week, and to begin thinking about next week’s sermon. You may be thinking, “What a cushy job that priest has!” Believe me, hiking is just as much work for me as is sitting at my desk. I have to make myself go most of the time, even though I thoroughly enjoy hiking and gain a lot from my walks with God. Besides, who says work can’t be enjoyable and beneficial for the soul?

So last week, I completed my first round on the PMT. It took me 11 hikes over the course of 4 months to complete the trail & it’s various off-shoots and side trails. For a beginner like myself, the PMT is very accessible and not too difficult. It’s quite doable, if one chooses to put aside the time to hike it (which is easier said than done in the course of our busy lives). But the trail is quite wonderful, and amazingly, God shows up every time!

The beginning...

But one cannot be completely prepared without the proper hiking tools. Read more

Does It Get Any Better Than This?

Today was truly a perfect day for our Parish Picnic at Blue Springs! We had a huge crowd of people, a wonderful worship service, a TON of food, some fantastic swimming, and just a grand time!

Many thanks to Cason and Nancy Callaway for their hospitality. What a gift we were all given in the beauty of their home! Also, many thanks to Sue & Dave Halmrast, Sharon & Tom Cheatham, Liz Dixon, Jeff Eskew, Peggy and Doug Martin, Michelle Moody, and everyone who helped make the day so nice or brought food and/or a friend.

If you did bring a guest, please send me their address so I can thank them for coming and visiting! You can e-mail it to me at fatherjeff@stnicholashamilton.org.

Below are photos of the day from Lynn Hall, who always does a fantastic job! Also, Janice Murphy took some great pics, and you can view her album here. Many other folks took pictures, so if you want to see them up, send them my way!
