On September 27 at 2:00pm, the youth of St. Nicholas will be trekking up to St. Paul’s in Newnan for the first annual Diocese of Atlanta Youth 4-Square Tournament. In case you aren’t sure what 4-Square is, it’s an incredibly addicting game where 4 people stand in a square (hence, “4-square”) and try to get each other “out” by bouncing a ball into the squares their opponents are standing in. It is going to be super fun! This event will be a tournament by churches, so Fr. Jeff would love to have you all on his team! Even if you don’t want to play, you are encouraged to come along for the ride. Youth in grades 6-12 are invited!
There will be food, lots of fun, and we’ll get to meet other youth from around the diocese. Bring $5.00 and a friend of your own! We’ll leave here at 2:00 and we’ll be back to St. Nicholas by 7:00.
If you can go, RSVP to Fr. Jeff as soon as you can by e-mailing him at fatherjeff@stnicholashamilton.org. Parents and Adults, if you would like to come, please let Fr. Jeff know and if you’re willing to drive!
Also, we have a couple of other youth events coming up:
New Beginnings: a spiritual growth and renewal weekend for teenagers in grades 6-9, will be held Oct. 9-11 at Camp Fortson. Each New Beginnings Retreat is designed to respond to issues, concerns and needs of teenagers. The weekend is filled with talks, skits, sharing, praying and singing.  Each participant must attend with an adult sponsor.  Cost per person is $100. Youth who have attended a New Beginnings weekend may apply to be on “The Team.”  The Team is responsible for what goes on during the weekend — from small group leaders, to prayer groups, to outside activities — and meets Oct. 3 for a training day. Application forms for candidates, sponsors and team members can be found on the youth website (www.episcopalatlantayouth.org) Deadline to register is Sept. 25.

Happening #52: a renewal weekend for teens, is scheduled Nov. 13-15 at Mikell Camp and Conference, Toccoa.  Happening is a renewal weekend for young people sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta and draws on the gifts of young people and adults from many parishes and missions.  The rector (or teen leader) for the weekend is Taylor Baumann, a senior at George Walton High School and member of St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church in Marietta. Candidates (teen participants) experience the weekend once and frequently return to work as team members. Deadline to apply for the team is Sept. 14. The Happening Steering Committee will meet Sept. 19 to select team participants.  Applications are online at www.episcopalatlantayouth.org.  Questions may be directed to Kim Smith, diocesan youth coordinator, at ksmith@episcopalatlanta.org or Randy Winton, Happening lay director at youth@stpaulsnewnan.org.

Fr. Jeff is going to be attending Happening, so he’d love to have some of our youth go! Please let him know if you would like more information on any of these events!
