What Is God Calling You To Do?

December 9, 2009 by fatherjeff

A last minute reminder that Episcopal 101 is tonight (Wednesday, December 9) with Eucharist at 6:30 and class at 7:15. We will be discussing “What is God Calling You To Do?” and will be focusing on our gifts, discernment, and the needs of our church and community. I’ll also be spending some time talking about how our ministry is organized at St. Nicholas and will highlight the various things God has currently called us to. If you are looking for a way to “plug in,” you don’t want to miss tonight’s class.
Also, Episcopal 101 will continue on a monthly basis. Next month, we will begin meeting on Thursdays starting on January 21 at 6:30pm, with an “Intro to St. Nicholas & Episcopal 101.” You can sign up at stnicholashamilton.org/signup or on the sign up board in the hallway at the church. It’s a great way to introduce your friends to your faith and your church, whether they come here regularly or not. It’s also great for newcomers and those who need a refresher. It’s also a great class to jump on and off of. If you attended only a couple this year, you can jump back on for the ones you missed. If you wish to be confirmed, received, or reaffirmed, you must attend at least 9 out of 12 Episcopal 101 classes.
We’ve had a very successful year, with 29 students who have attended over the year, about half of which were regulars, and 7 of whom will be confirmed, received, or reaffirmed this Sunday at the Cathedral in Atlanta at 4:00pm.
Hope to see you tonight or at a future class!

Christmas Parade

Forget Christmas! The busiest couple of days of the year at St. Nicholas are the days around St. Nicholas Day (December 6). St. Nicholas Day, of course, is our patronal feast day, and this year we celebrated in style! Read more

The Hiking Preacher Part 9

Wolfden Loop Part 1

Rocky Point to Mile 20 & back: approx. 4 miles, 2 hours
Rocky Point to East End Loop & back: approx. 4 miles,  2 hours 15 minutes

This is the ninth in a series of posts about my weekly hikes on the Pine Mountain Trail.

Mile 19Mile 20Today I’m posting about two separate hikes. Last week, I just plain ol’ ran out of time and couldn’t get my act together to write about the first chunk of the Wolfden Loop. Wolfden is the longest loop on the trail, at 6.7 miles. I haven’t hiked the whole loop at one time, but I’d like to do so someday. Instead, I have broken the loop into 3 hikes which are all very manageable if you don’t have a lot of time. You can hop onto these trails really easily from the Rocky Point Parking Lot, whereas next week’s section will require going all the way over to the WJSP Tower and starting there.

Friends, Harris Countians, countryfolk, lend us your VOICES! Our Christmas choir is coming along nicely, but needs to plan a couple of extra rehearsals. Please join the choir on Saturday afternoon, December 5 at 4:00pm at the church for an extra rehearsal in preparation for our Advent and Christmas Eve music. This is to coincide with the Christmas Parade, so come for choir, then join us in the parade. All are welcome! If you are interested in joining our new ongoing choir, or have any questions, please contact Sam Roney, Director of Music at samroney@stnicholashamilton.org.
