Happy Birthday Website!

website1Our website has just had it’s very first birthday!

Today, I updated many of the Pages to reflect what’s going on currently. The website has two functioning parts, the Posts and the Pages. The Posts are the articles (like this one) that we “post” to give you up-to-date info on what’s coming up. Posts are what you see when you receive an e-mail from the website. Pages are the more “static” pages, that you see in the toolbar above. These are mostly pages that have information that is more constant. Every year, this information gets a bit of tweaking, unless something major needs to be updated.

If you haven’t strolled through the Pages in a while, you really should do so! Among the updates:

Leaders pages, especially the Vestry & Staff page
Worship page, with updated service times
Marriage, Funerals, and Other Forms of Worship, with update information on Confirmation
Parish Life Events, with more pictures of our events in the last year

If you are interested in learning more about how to contribute to our website, or learning more about websites in general, I will be teaching two different workshops. First, at the Diocesan Ministry Fair at the Cathedral on March 6, I will be co-leading a workshop called Blogs and Facebook & Twitter, Oh My! Here’s the description of the workshop: “Social media” are new tools for mainline churches, but part of the everyday lives of many of our parishioners and most of our neighbors (of all ages). Come learn how the new social media are impacting Christianity in and out of the church, and how we can be a positive force in those changes. Come learn more about Facebook, Tweeting, and other social networks and how they can work for you and your church in an effective way, most all of them at little or no cost.   The Rev. Jeff Jackson, rector of St. Nicholas in Hamilton, will use an example of how his parish is using social networking tools to build community and enhance evangelism.

Second, on March 13 at 1:00pm at the church, I will be teaching specifically how to be a contributor to our website. I will teach participants how the site works, how to post Posts and Pages, with pictures, text, and more! It would be helpful to have a laptop with wireless capabilities so you can interact with the website while I’m teaching. It’s not mandatory, though, but you’ll want to take notes.

We’ve made a lot of headway with our website in the last year. I hope you have found it an effective tool for communication. As always, your feedback is important. Help me by continuing to let me know what you’d like to see on the website in the future.

Lenten Series: The Interior Journey of Lent

February 13, 2010 by fatherjeff

Fr. Jeff speaks at last year's Lenten Series.

As Lent is a time of self-exploration and reflection, we look for opportunities to prepare ourselves for the journey to the Cross. Lent is special because it invites us to do the interior work on our own “inflamed hearts.” In this interior journey, we will look at those who have gone before in order to grasp the ways in which they struggled with their worlds, their faith, and their own “inflammation.”

Particularly, we will look at the journeys that women have made through the centuries and how their interior journeys culminated in unity and love through various means.

Join us on the Tuesday evenings of Lent at 6:30 p.m. as we explore this interior journey:

February 23: The Rev. Ruth Cummings, Associate Rector at St. Anne’s in Atlanta, looks at the interior journeys of the “Mary’s” in Jesus’ life as they loved him, supported him, and even held his lifeless body and witnessed his resurrection.

March 2: Michelle McCrillis, Associate Professor of Art History at Columbus State University, looks at the interior journeys of women throughout the history of art.

March 9: Mary Jane Wadkins looks at the development of early Christianity and the interior journey of the women during that time.

March 16: The Rev. Donna Gafford, Priest Associate for Adult Education at Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbus, looks at the interior journey of the early Anglican church.

March 23: Speakers TBD. We’ll look at the interior journey of women in history and their contribution to music.

Sign up for the Lenten Series by clicking here. You can sign up to help bring food, to help set up and clean up, or to just attend! See you in Lent!

Cleaning Day at the Jackson’s

Hill Street HouseAs many of you know, Fr. Jeff & Molly are about to buy a new house on Hill Street in Hamilton. There have been many people who have expressed an interest in helping them get their new house ready to move into. While they don’t close on the house until February 19, there are a few things that we all can do to help so that when they do close, we can get started immediately with the cosmetic work like painting.
This Friday and Saturday from 1:00-5:00pm, Jeff & Molly will be at the house for a Clean Up Day to wipe down the walls, baseboards, mantels, bathroom and kitchen cleaning, spackling any holes, etc. If you can come one or both days (Molly says it probably won’t take two days, but you never know!), they could use your help! They’ll have cleaning supplies available. If you have a tall ladder, you might want to bring it for the high spots.
We all have gifts to give and everyone at St Nicholas are free to share those gifts so please think about it and come join us as we make this a fun and blessed event for the Jackson’s!
Thank you!!

Update on Haiti

4 Feb 2010

Below is an update on Episcopal Relief and Development’s
efforts in Haiti.  Thank you so much for your support.  I know many of
you have parishes in Haiti that you helped that are now in ruins.  In
a conference call last night it was stressed that for less than the
cost of an airline ticket from the U.S. to Haiti, Haitians are being
hired to help themselves with the relief and recovery in their
country.  They are very able and willing to do the work at hand.
