Holy Week is almost upon us!
Our Lenten journey is almost finished, but before we get there, we are invited to the climax of Lent. Many Christians forget that before we celebrate the Resurrection on Easter, we are called to walk to journey to the Cross with Jesus during this week. In fact, we could not celebrate the Resurrection without the events of Holy Week.
At St. Nicholas we have services every night during Holy Week to give us the opportunity to set aside this week as something different, something sacred.
Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday on March 28. We will have one service at 10:00 a.m. We will meet in Hamilton town square and begin with the Blessing of the Palms, then we will process in our vehicles to the church and hear again the Passion story of Jesus.
On Holy Monday, March 29, we will have a service of Holy Eucharist at 6:30 p.m. Deacon John Saunders from LaGrange will be our guest preacher. Our music will be quiet and reflective and played by Fr. Jeff on guitar.
Holy Tuesday is March 30 and we will have a service of Holy Eucharist at 6:30 p.m. Fr. Jeff will preach and play his guitar in another contemplative service.
On Holy Wednesday, March 31, our acolytes will lead a service called Stations of the Cross at 6:30 p.m. Music will be by our music director, Sam Roney.
Maundy Thursday is April 1 and we will have Holy Eucharist with Footwashing and the Stripping of the Altar at 6:30 p.m. Our Altar Guild will be on hand to assist with this moving service. Our choir will be on hand to lead us in singing this night.
Finally, Good Friday is on April 2. We will have Eucharist from the Reserved Sacrament at 6:30 p.m. Again, our choir will be with us on this most holy night.
The week will lead us straight to our celebration of Easter on Sunday, April 4, with 2 festive services of Holy Eucharist at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Both services will include full music, with a guest trumpeter and choir, and will be followed by our Easter reception and Easter Egg Hunt.
So join us for Holy Week and Easter! You will be moved and your heart will be enlightened!
