Sunday Service & Parish Picnic at Blue Springs

st-nicholas-picnic-09-3.jpgDon’t forget that our last summer service at 10:00am will be this Sunday at the lovely Blue Springs home of Cason and Nancy Callaway, followed by our Parish Picnic! Parking is limited, so feel free to carpool from St. Nicholas.

Blue Springs is located halfway between Mobley Road (where the church is) and Interstate 185 on Highway 116. Turn right out of the church parking lot, a right on 116, and keep going until you see the “Episcopal Church Meets Here” sign and balloons. Click here for a Google Map to the Callaways.

We will begin gathering at 9:30 am, and our service of Holy Eucharist will begin at 10:00 am. Following the service, we will have our potluck lunch and then swimming in the Callaway’s pool. No lifeguard will be on duty, so swim at your own risk! Parents must tend to their children!

Remember to bring:
A chair and/or blankets to sit on
A dish for the picnic
Sunscreen
Bathing suits and towels (there’s a bath house to change in)

And most importantly…

Bring a friend! This is a great way to introduce folks to St. Nicholas! Read more

Let Us Welcome The Newly Baptized!

baptism-7-25-10009_600x750.jpgThis Sunday, we were all moved by the newest member of Christ’s holy, catholic church, Ella Grace. Ella and her family live in Florida, but asked to be baptized here at St. Nicholas since her godparents and extended family live here in Harris County. We gladly opened our space for them to visit and were honored to be a part of this momentous occasion in her life.

As always, we all made promises to support Ella in her life in Christ. We may not see her often or ever, but the promises we made, we did so on behalf of the whole Christian family.

Ella was so sweet and quiet through most of the service. She cried a bit when the water splashed her head, but she calmed down quickly once she was sealed with the oil on her forehead. It was an honor to hold her in those moments.

If you’d like to listen to the sermon and the baptism, click on the podcast box to the right of the screen.

Here are some photos of the baptism, thanks to Lynn Hall. If you wish to be baptized or have a child you would like to be baptized, no matter how old, feel free to contact us! Read more

The Sign of the Cross

Ever wonder what all those funky hand-motions are that the priest, and those sitting around you in the pews are doing? Here is some interesting history and information about the prayer form we like to call “The Sign of the Cross” from my friend Fr. Matthew Moretz.

VBS Fiesta Starts Monday!

July 20, 2010 by fatherjeff

Next week, July 26-30, our church will turn into a full-fledged Fiesta! We are all excited to welcome all 3 to 9-year-olds for a week of fun, crafts, games, snacks, and lots of learning about who Jesus is! We have a cadre of fantastic adult and teen leaders for the week. There is still room to sign up, but do so today!

At the end of the week, we will meet over at Cason & Nancy Callaway’s Blue Springs home for a picnic and swimming in their pool! Parents will need to accompany their children, and we will have lifeguards present for the morning.

If you have any children in your neighborhood or family who would like to come, please sign up by clicking here.

We will be decorating for Fiesta after church on Sunday. All are welcome to join us! We’ll also be doing a brief training for the teen group leaders, so be sure to stick around for that!

Sip & See

Come meet the newest member of the Townsend family!  All are invited to a Sip & See in honor of Kenny & Terri’s new baby Luke Evan this Saturday, July 24, 2:00-5:00 p.m., at the Jackson home, 323 Hill Street in Hamilton.  Please drop in any time during those hours to visit Luke and his parents!  Also, we will be filling up the Townsends’ freezer with meals for them to have in the coming weeks.  If you would like to contribute, please bring your frozen meal to the Sip & See. All are welcome!

Evangelism Until You’re Sick

Today, I decided to make a bunch of flyers for our Vacation Bible School program and distribute them in the surrounding area around the church. Tai & Bronwyn were especially excited about this little adventure, and agreed to tag along. This was their first lesson in evangelism.

We started in the car, and drove around a few places, with co-pilot Molly tagging mailboxes as we went. We did that until we ran out of flyers. The kids came with me to the church to make more. They love coming to “work” with me in the church. Their work consists of asking me what a paper cutter is and announcing that the printer spit out a piece of paper at the top of their lungs. That makes “work” more fun, doesn’t it? Read more
