Our next Out and About excursion is planned for June 22nd at 10:30 am. We will be taking an outing to the Explorations in Antiquity Center in LaGrange for a tour and biblical meal.
This event is appropriate for all ages and will last about 2 1/2 – 3 hours. It includes a full-course lunch (a Passover-reminiscent meal designed to replicate some kinds of foods Jesus and his disciples might have consumed at the Last Supper). You will actually dine in a room very similar to the one Jesus and his disciples would have used, built to resemble actual Roman-era dining rooms uncovered in archaeological digs. Before the meal, you will spend about an hour and a half walking in the shoes of someone who lived in the ancient Middle East, as a docent gives you a guided tour through full-scale, functional replicas of many archaeological discoveries from that period. Explore two life-size sheepfolds and experience what it might have been like for Mary to give birth to Jesus in a hewn-rock stable. Walk into the catacombs and learn why it was such a safe place for early Christians to worship. Discover an ancient-style house that could be lived in today, and climb the solid defense tower to see the view. The kids won’t be the only ones exploring! At the end of the tour, check out the gift shop, full of unique items from Israel. You’ll find that you’ll definitely want to come back for more!
Please reply to Patty Grace at firstname.lastname@example.org or 706-881-3527 if you’re interested. We must have your reservation and money by Sunday, June 16. Please make your check payable to St. Nicholas. The museum charges a $10 fee for cancellations.
