Matthew 27:1-10

Judas’ Cry by Susan Wiley

It was I, who by means of a kiss delivered You up
and at that moment, my own fate sealed.
“Woe is the one by whom I am betrayed,
better for that one had he not been born.”

I remembered then that You had set Your face in this direction.
I saw that You would indeed lay down Your life
of Your own volition.

I have sinned.
You, Jesus, are the guiltless One.
Wounded with that knowledge
and filled with remorse,
I cannot undo betrayal’s kiss.

I do not want the bloodied silver.
Only to see His eyes again,
(not in rebuke)
looking toward me in pity and with love.

O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world,
Have mercy on me, a sinner.

Lord Jesus, may I always be aware that as I am tempted on every hand, Your grace is always available to me, Your gaze is always upon me, and Your mercy is always toward me.
