cross-lent-purple-drape-5A New Fellowship by Leslie Baker

Peter began to say unto him, “Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee”. Jesus said, “Verily I say unto you, there is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or lands, for my sake, and for the gospel’s sake, but he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come, eternal life. But many that are first shall be last, and the last first.” (Mark 10.28-31)

In this passage, Bonhoeffer discusses that Jesus is speaking to men that have left all they have by following him in a new fellowship…”his Church, which finds itself in him.” Even though we all must enter discipleship alone, we never remain alone, and our reward is the “fellowship of the Church…a visible brotherhood to compensate a hundredfold for all we have lost…such is the grace which is granted to the Church which follows its Lord beneath the cross…also is the promise which is held out to Christ’s followers – they will be members of the community of the cross.”

“And they were on the way; going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going before them: and they were amazed; and they that followed were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were to happen unto him.” (Mark 10:32)
