“These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. John 15:11
The world today has a tendency for soul-consuming and friction-wearing for this hurrying, grasping, and competing age. Isn’t there a way to get rid of all irritants, of everything which worries and frets bring so much discord into so many lives? I have found out that joy has a wonderful lubricating power which lengthens the life of human machinery and causes it to run abundantly much like the inert machines of today. Life’s delicate bearings should not be carelessly ground away for mere lack of oil. What is needed is mere habit of prayer and listening to God’s word and applying it to our lives to receive the full joy; not to fret and stew about all week, and then expect to make up for it on Sunday or a holiday.
It is not a question of mirth so much as of joy; not alone that which accompanies laughter, but serenity…a calm, sweet soul contentment and inward peace. This same serenity can be seen by the world through the lubricating power of Jesus. The joy of the Lord is our strength and one in which a kind word to our neighbor can go a long way. May your journey be followed by the sunshine of joy and forever bathed in the Light of His Word and Glory.
