Hi Mary,

Thanks for visiting our site! Glad you like it.

We use an Atlanta based web designer called Zowbie Consultants. The format of the site is a Wordpress blog site, which intended to be updated regularly. We had the vision for what we wanted the site to look like and they designed it for us. If you'd like more information on developing a site, let me know.

Hi, yes, I've found your site and it's wonderful. I am an Episcopalian in Portland, Oregon, most recently attending Trinity Cathedral. I hope you don't mind my parachuting in on your daily devotions, which I stumbled on when I was looking for a tidy and easy way to connect with the readings each day.

Who designed your Web site, if you don't mind me asking, because it's particularly handsome one and I wondered if there was a template for other churches or people to use. St. Nicholas sounds like a fascinating congregation and I would love to visit it. If Episcopalians don't have a way of exchanging visits with each other cross country, maybe we should invent it because maybe you'd like to come to Oregon while I visit Georgia!
Take care,
Mary

Hi Jeff, I agree with what you said in your blog. "Christianity," as opposed to Christian discipleship, has become a political philosophy rather than a way of Christ-like living. As you've probably already heard, the word "Christian" is only used twice or so in the Bible. The word "disciple" is used 269 times (give or take a few).

There's an unpublished work by Barbara Brown Taylor, which used to be available at the Washington National Cathedral, entitled "Manifold sins and wickedness..." which you might find helpful. She wrote it on the eve of the new millennium, when a number of folks were running around buying up propane. B.B. Taylor also addresses the issue you've raised in this work. I'd be happy to send you a copy, if you'd like.

We need articulate pastors, like yourself, who will help clarify what the heart and soul of our faith is. Our culture hungers and thirsts for honest and authentic perspectives on what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ today. Thanks for your clarity. Rich D.

[...] The Master Site planning process took several weeks of work by the Strategic Planning Committee and Hank’s firm. First, Hank met with the entire congregation in a Town Hall Meeting on September 25, 2011 to get ideas, feedback, and dreams. You can read all the responses by clicking here. [...]

Jeff,

Your parable reminds me so much of the 23rd Psalm. Although in that, the psalmist speaks of the shepherd leading the way, it is very similar to your story. The children in your parable sometimes go astray, get lost, or hurt themselves, and the father is there to bring them back. Often the shepherd helps the sheep get back on the path with the rod or the staff, like the voice or the stick in your parable. Also, at the end, the psalmist speaks of the table being prepared for him, like the picnic in your parable. And everything that is done by the father in your parable or the shepherd in the psalm is done out of love.

I really like your parable!
Nancy
