St. Nicholas will commemorate the Tenth Anniversary of September 11, 2001 by adding a special plot in our Memory Garden to honor the victims of the 9/11 attack. The loose offering from both services on September 11th will be designated for materials. If you would like to donate or help with the planting, please contact the church at 706.628.7272 or stnicholas.harriscounty@gmail.com
O God, as we remember the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attack on our nation, continue to look with compassion on the whole human family. Console those who still suffer and grieve, and give them comfort and hope for the future. Take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; and unite us in bonds of love. Help us work though our struggles and confusion to acheive your purposes on earth. We pray that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sometime in the spring semester of 1997, I first saw Molly Sanders. She walked into our New Testament classroom as we were freshmen at Berry College. I was struck immediately by her beauty, her smile, and her grace. It’s amazing to me that 14 years later, I can say that I’ve been married for 10 years to that girl who was way out of my league.
We didn’t start officially dating until the spring of 2000. I waited a long time for Molly, mainly because I never thought she’d go out with me, but also because she didn’t want to ruin our friendship. I asked her out repeatedly, but she just wasn’t ready. In the meantime we became best friends and shared many classes together as religion majors. Either my persistence wore her down, or she just couldn’t resist my balding head, but eventually, we had “the talk” while sitting in her car behind Evans Hall one afternoon. She told me back then that I better be prepared, because she would be an awesome girlfriend, and of course, she wasn’t lying. She said it as a warning, but I took it as a promise. Read more
Happy 10th Anniversary, St. Nicholas!

On February 20, 2000, St. Nicholas was officially recognized as a “worshipping community” by then bishop, the Right Reverend Frank Allen. Although the seeds of St. Nicholas had been planted and watered before that, with gatherings starting in 1998, and ideas of an Episcopal Church in Harris County brewing well before that, this is a special day of remembrance for the people of St. Nicholas. It was also on this day that the Rev. Beverley McEachern, who was then serving as priest-in-charge was declared St. Nicholas’ first vicar.

Ten years later, St. Nicholas is a much different place, with our beautiful worship space, our continually growing congregation, and a “relatively new” rector, but we still hold that same excitement about doing God’s work in this place, welcoming people into our midst, and being an example of Christ’s love.

Thank you, Lord, for 10+ years of this wonderful parish. Thank you for the individuals who answered your call to be an example of your love in Harris County. Thank you for the work you’ve done and the ways you have been with us throughout our journey. Be with us for the next 10 years and beyond, and makes us always faithful to your call. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
