Below you’ll find a brief liturgy from the Book of Common Prayer called Daily Devotion, as well as the readings for today. Choose one reading to focus on, or if you want, read all three. Pace yourself. Don’t blow through the readings or the prayers. Ponder them. Ask yourself what God might be trying to say to you at this very moment. If you have questions about the meaning of a text, or the context, e-mail me or comment below.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Don’t forget that we will have ONE combined service at 10:00am for the next three Sundays, December 26, January 2, and January 9. The latter of those Sundays will be our Annual Parish Meeting, at which we’ll elect new Vestry members, delegates to Diocesan Council, and receive reports of all the wonderful things God has done in the last year! If you are in town, please be sure to attend these weeks as we make our way through the Christmas season (you didn’t think we were done, did you?) and into the season of Epiphany.

Christmas ParadeJoin us on Saturday, December 4 at 4:00pm as we gather at the Old Carver Middle School in Hamilton to decorate our Christmas float in this year’s Hamilton Christmas Parade! The parade starts at 5:30, and we need lots of St. Nicholas folks to walk with us and display the warmth of our church to the community. It will be a great event, so come and join us as we spread the love of Christ!

Advent/ Christmas 2009

Happen to miss Christmas Eve and/or Lessons & Carols at St. Nicholas Church? Well, you missed a treat! The music by our new choir, guest singers & special soloists certainly uplifted our High Holy Days worship experiences!  Joyful music of the season soared through our beautifully decorated church.

Thanks to each you who participated in our special services during Advent and Christmas. Your congregational singing brought our music up to an even higher level of celebration! I hope our Allen Organ (“the organ transplant”), will continue to inspire you to sing joyfully in weekly worship!

Please extend a word of thanks to our St. Nicholas Choir members.  Their faithful commitment went above and beyond “the call of duty” during December. Several extra rehearsals were needed to prepare our seasonal music. The choir enthusiastically shared their time and talents in preparation for Christmas 2009. Read more

Youth Christmas Party 2009

This year’s Youth Christmas Party was a blast! Peggy and Doug Martin hosted at their home in Pine Mountain Valley. Everyone brought appetizers, which ended up being quite the feast! Terri Townsend led the youth in a ton of fun games including the Santa Suit Hunt, the Christmas Bow Challenge, Blindfolded Cookie Decorating, and Hide-and-Seek for Fr. Jeff. Throughout the night, the teens accumulated points to be used in the final game, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas Dirty Santa, where they had gifts that they rotated whenever their special word from the story was said. Sheila Dixon took the littler ones and played Pictionary and other games with them, as well as making some beautiful Christmas ornaments. Afterwords, Father Jeff led a cold worship service on the back porch, reminding the teens of the discomfort Mary and Joseph must have felt being stuck out in a manger.

Many thanks to all the parents, youth leaders, and especially the youth who came and participated! It was a great night! Below are some pics of the event:

We are in need of more children to be in our Christmas Pageant Christmas Eve.  We still need a Mary, a Joseph, and some shepherds.  We have 3 angels, a star and 2 animals!

Practice is after church this Sunday and will take only about 30 minutes.   There are no speaking roles and nothing to memorize.   We also need another narrator….from the youth.  Thank you, Andy Butzon
