Lobsterfest is filling up quickly, and our reservation deadline is Wednesday, September 15! If you want to make your reservations for delicious, succulent, fresh Maine lobster, or mouth-watering beef tenderloin, you need to do so quickly! You can order online by clicking on Louie the Lobster to the right of this page, you can contact Sue Halmrast at dhalmrast@aol.com or Linda Sawyer at hogback@wavetel.us, or you can call the church office at 706-628-7272 to make your reservations.
Our Silent Auction has a tremendous amount of awesome pieces, including UGA/GA Tech football tickets, Masters Practice Round tickets, vacation homes, artwork, jewelry, and even a few fun surprises.

One such addition to the auction is High Voltage, or “Volt.” Volt was born under the power line in the Piedmont neighborhood. Phebe Robertson, an animal loving St. Nicholas parishioner had been feeding his mother for a year and a half trying to gain her trust. When the puppies were born, Phebe and her husband rescued them and their mother and turned them over to Kathryn Genova and The Humane Society of Harris County. We hope to get Volt adopted the evening of Lobsterfest and to raise awareness of the plight of homeless animals in Harris County where there is currently no permanent shelter. Volt’s adoption fee will start at $145.00 (to cover the cost of shots and neutering,) The Humane Society will be reimbursed for that amount.
Volt has been neutered and has all his age appropriate vaccinations. Volt comes with his crate, which makes house training a breeze, his blankie, a training video, a bag of puppy chow, water and food bowl and a collar and leash. He just needs a wonderful family to love.
This is an event not to be missed, so come as we help St. Nicholas and have a fantastic time!

Two work sessions are being planned to complete easy tasks for Lobsterfest.
♦ On Thursday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m. Sheila Dixon will host a get-together at her home (171 Manton Drive, Fortson) to assemble hand fans for Lobsterfest guests. This is an easy task and will be made easier by your participation. Sheila will have appetizers, wine and soft drinks to make this a fun evening.
♦ On Saturday, September 11, from 9:30 – 12:00, the second session will be held at St. Nicholas to help wrap utensil packets and place raffle ticket stubs in vials for the drawing. A continental breakfast will be served.
Please plan to attend one of these sessions and give Louie a hand…he has none, you know. These are good opportunities to visit with members of the St. Nicholas family and a fun and relaxing way to help with Lobsterfest. You may sign up for one or both of these times in the narthex or by contacting Sheila at Sheila.a.dixon@delta.com or Linda Sawyer at hogback@wavetel.us .

What Should I Draw?
August 11, 2010 by fatherjeff

I did not draw this. Really.
Lobsterfest is looming large over me. I’m really excited about the event, I really am, but due to Sue Halmrast twisting my arm, I agreed to donate a couple of pieces of original artwork to the silent auction. What was I thinking?
For those of you who may not know, I am somewhat of a cartoonist, and a deep lover of sequential art, not just comic books, but any art that tells a sequential story. I think the marriage between words and pictures is fascinating, and I’ve been a fan of such art, particularly comics, since I was a boy. I can remember copying Garfield comic strips by Jim Davis when I was younger, and learning just how to get those eyes right.
My high school years were when I was at my artistic peak. I spent most of my time in the art room, with my teacher Ms. Haroldson, whom I loved to pester as much as learn from. In my senior year, I received the Art Award on Honors Night, which is my only claim to fame from high school. I still have a lot of that work.
When I went to Berry, I had every intention of being an art major. However, my advisor and professor was too…well…artsy for my taste, and I didn’t think that I was going to make it in that program. So I switched to my other love, religion, and studied that instead. But I did my fair share of drawing in college. For two years, I was the editorial cartoonist for the Campus Carrier, which taught me how to draw on a deadline. There were nights where I was burning major midnight oil trying to get one of those single-panelled terrors in on time. Luckily, my editor was also a dear friend and Episcopalian, so she cut me some slack. Read more
