lobsterfest-logoThis past Sunday, the Lobsterfest Committee met to debrief this year’s event and to receive the final numbers of what we raised. Thanks be to God, and to the wonderful work of our committee, the final net profit that we raised was $20,893.51!

The Committee thought it would be helpful to you all to see exactly our income and expenses to see where this number came from. Thanks to the hard work of our financial administrator Dorothy Webster, who handled the Lobsterfest finances during our triennial audit, here is Lobsterfest by the numbers: Read more

trey-cleggmarch-17-2011-2If you have missed any of our Lenten Series, I Will Praise Him With A New Song: Explorations in Spirituality & Music, redemption is here! We have recorded both of our speakers thus far, Trey Clegg and Debbie Anderson, and you can listen to them by either clicking on the links below or by clicking on the box to the right of this post.

Trey Clegg spoke about the season of Lent and inspiring music to deepen our renewal of the season and not focusing on the dirge that is usually associated with Lent. Trey played classical as well as contemporary pieces from many different traditions.

Debbie Anderson spoke on the role of cantoring in both Jewish and Christian worship and the connection between the two. She sang a number of pieces from the service music in our 1982 Hymnal and introduced us to Plainsong and Anglican chant, as well as singing a number of Jewish pieces sung regularly in the Temple.

Click here to listen to Debbie.

Please join us for the remainder of the series on Tuesday nights at 6:30pm. Next Tuesday, we will have Thornton Jordan, retired professor at Columbus State University, Linda Franklin, hammered dulcimer player, and some other friends to teach us about “Traditions of Southern Church Music including Shape Note Singing.” It will be a lot of fun, so please come and join us for dinner and our program following.

I Will Praise Him With A New Song! An Exploration of Music and Spirituality

The first dinner of the Lenten Series will be this THURSDAY, MARCH 17th at 6:30pm. We had to move this first dinner from Tuesday to Thursday to accommodate our guest musician, Trey Clegg. He is great, so please come and make him welcome! You may remember Trey from our Music Workshop a year and a half ago as we planned for our music program before we hired Sam Roney. Trey is the music director at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta and is a fantastic talent and a big ball of energy. You will be entertained and inspired by his program.

The sign-up sheet for this Thursday’s dinner went around church on Sunday, and not many people signed up. This was probably because of the short notice. The theme for the dinner is “Italian.” So, if you are coming and are planning on bringing a dish, dessert, or beverage, please let Rebecca Crowley know by Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Likewise, if you are planning on coming but cannot bring a dish, there will be a donation plate - but we do need to have a head count. So, again, please email Rebecca by Wednesday at rrc@daycrowley.com .

The sign-up sheets for the rest of the dinners are also now posted at the church. So, the next time you are there, please take a look at the dates and go ahead and mark your calendars.

We look forward to seeing you!
